Thankfully, I also googled to learn more about the city, which helped me better prepare in advance. Whenever I travel abroad, I ensure to review the places I intend to visit. In this case, the changing weather patterns made me research how to cope with unexpected travel challenges. 

Before setting off, I ensured I had all the relevant documents and contact details to help me stay in touch with colleagues and family. I was also better positioned to support and encourage other stranded travelers. Despite the challenges, the business trip was a success, and I made new long-term friends I met while on that trip.

During a previous role working for a financial institution, I noticed a delay in processing statements for a client seeking financial assistance. The postponements led to prolonged waiting, from the loan application period to the time of receiving the cash. The delay led to a massive crisis in the institution, with most clients threatening to close their accounts out of frustration. 

With my IT background, I researched and felt that an appropriate solution would be to integrate a software application to automate repetitive processes to improve efficiency. I talked to my boss about it, and management allowed me to try it out on a trial basis. The pilot project was to run for a fortnight to see if it would speed things up. I gathered my team to brief them and give them an orientation before implementing it. 

The project was so successful that it got immediate approval from all stakeholders. Within one month, the pile-up of unprocessed loans was sorted, and members’ loan requests received prompt approvals. That app remains one of the most successful projects I have been privileged to work with in my career.

I also create time to attend workshops and seminars offering insights on relevant topics. I purpose to use the knowledge and experience gained to improve processes in the company. 

23. What Is Your Greatest Failure, And What Lessons Do You Draw From The Experience

While on campus, I enrolled in a music class to supplement my core curriculum. I did not take it seriously and assumed that it would be uninvolving compared to my business management classes. I ignored it and somehow imagined I would pass it without much effort. 

My failing grades jolted me back to reality as it jeopardized my scholarship status. For the next semester, I spent all my free time studying for that unit which paid off as I got better grades. That experience taught me to give my best in everything I do, no matter how insignificant it appears.

My job description involves consistently working under pressure, so it demands that I learn to be calm amidst pressure. The best I can do is to focus, exercise some flexibility and identify priorities, giving them attention in the order of importance. 

After graduation, I got a job in my hometown’s fire department. My role was to instruct my team and ensure we put out fires with minimal property damage. I also had to act promptly to save lives. One time a fire broke out in two different locations simultaneously, and I was to organize teams to both sites. It was a stressful experience that needed problem-solving skills and speedy solutions. Thanks to selfless collaboration from my team, we managed to contain both fires. Though the fire destroyed a lot of property, there were no casualties or deaths reported in both incident.

From experience, I know that employees’ three critical motivating factors are recognition, respect, and creating opportunities. Every time I delegate tasks, I involve each person, delegating duties that complement their skills and allow them to shine in their areas of specialty.

In a previous job, I helped develop a yearly award ceremony to recognize performance in each department. That move helped improve productivity, leading to better sales and expansion possibilities.

I have always worked in a fast-paced environment where we are consistently under pressure to deliver within crazy time frames. The beauty of it is that I am used to it and don’t find it strenuous. When I first started, I used to feel pressured. But currently, I just relax and develop an operational strategy. 

First, I make sure that I understand what the project requirements are and what the customer wants. From that assessment, I can come up with a plan and divide tasks into manageable portions. I create a deadline for each part, ensuring I start with the most time-consuming task. Dividing up tasks helps me identify the skills and gauge if the budget is enough to complete the project. It also helps me determine the responsibilities to delegate to my team to ensure there’s no workflow interruption. Being organized is the best tool to prevent burnout and deliver on time. 

27. What Would You Do When Faced With A Crisis Yet You Can’t Seem To Find An Appropriate Solution For It?

Whenever I experience a crisis, I look for possible solutions by trying out each option. If that doesn’t work, and the solution needs expertise I can get within, I involve my team. However, if there’s still no solution, I approach my seniors and request backup in getting an expert from elsewhere. 

To avoid such a crisis, I constantly audit a project to understand what it entails before starting. I gather the tools and expertise needed and determine how I intend to delegate before commencing the task.

Integrating technology into workflows has many benefits, including carryout analyses and conducting examinations. I have found that choosing metrics and comparing each individual’s daily performance is very beneficial in quantifying productivity.

To be more effective in this role, I must keep updating my knowledge and sharpening my skills. A bachelor’s degree isn’t enough as technology keeps evolving with new business practices emerging daily. 

I intend to enroll periodically in courses while seeking mentorship opportunities to avoid lagging behind. I also hope to continue with my master’s soon. The knowledge I have in IT will help me participate in selecting software applications.
