1. Tell Us About Yourself.

Everyone, including me, can’t love their job 100% of the time. As for those parts, I am sure I will face them as well, but with a positive attitude.

Besides enjoying my job, I find it draining when I repeatedly hit roadblocks when trying to finalize a client’s care plan or solve a problem. There are days when I need to take a break to refocus and recharge. I usually go for a run in the evening to decompress and prepare for the next day.

8. What Are Your Greatest Strengths And Weaknesses? 

I am being asked to reveal my unique skills through this question. Even if it feels like bragging, I would always tell the truth.

  • Whether it’s a treatment plan or financial concerns, I can help my clients understand the more complicated aspects of health care. In feedback surveys my clients complete for me, this is consistently one of the highest scoring categories.

  • Too often, I lose sight of the big picture in the details. Even if the client still benefits from the result, I get discouraged or frustrated when I don’t get the exact response I want from an insurance company or doctor.

A client of mine would need several surgeries and physical therapy on his knee. As I explained each part of the knee, I showed him a diagram of the knee. I then explained what was wrong with him and what each surgery would do to fix it.

For the surgery to be most effective, he also needed physical therapy to strengthen his knee muscles to keep everything in place. After I explained the whole thing to his wife, he thanked me again.

10. Tell Us About A Time You Worked With A Difficult Client. 

During my home care career, I worked with a client who had early stages of dementia and didn’t understand why I had to visit her every day. As a result, she would get very upset and wouldn’t let me into her home.

I discussed creating a calendar for her with her son, who had been arranging her care. My daily schedule was written on the sign, which was placed in a conspicuous place in the house. When she argues with me, I can refer her to the calendar if she insists I’m not supposed to come.

When I worked in-home care, I worked with a family whose head of household and decision makers were men. So, before I did anything, I needed the husband’s approval.

My advice would be to suggest case management to someone who likes to serve people. Moreover, I am interested in treatment procedures, patient monitoring, and even biology because they will find it rewarding. 

A case manager can examine and diagnose the patient in several ways. There are various ways to diagnose disorders, but the main concept is listening to the patient to understand every aspect of the disorder to diagnose it correctly.

As soon as I feel stuck, I advise my patients to meet with another case manager or to go directly to the doctor. I will never say anything false or misleading and always do my best to be truthful. Nevertheless, I will reduce the stress in my career due to these situations.
